A Writer’s Prayer
Dearest God
Or whatever good spirit
Of worlds and blessed nothing
Of blackness and stars
Lives yet
In this strange place
I pray for strength
To fight the demons of my thought
And to hope for a good end
To hope well enough to hear
Her voice
My muse
I pray for courage
To continue
For a scribbler’s path is lonely
Through a desert place
Where food and drink are sparse
And a bard must risk livelihood
To follow his love
I pray for help
For I am poor
For I am weary
And I cannot make the journey alone
I pray for comfort
That my quest is worthwhile
That others may gain from my labor
That I will be remembered
And not go quietly into the night
I pray too for vision
That I might see the proper paths
Of tales
Of heroes
For the way is riddled with false roads
And traps for the unwary
Last of all I pray for voice
To sing well this song
To send off my love
Like a spark to the world
May it catch
May it catch fire…
Dearest God of Poets
Of muses
Of scribes
And singers too
This and more I pray
For I am only one man
And the world is a bitter thing
For a dreaming heart to bear alone.

that was pretty good, my prayer in my writing is that I portray God in every story I write

This is truly a divine thought. I absolutely LOVE IT! With your permission, I’d like to reprint it on my Myspace. I think those of us with other worlds than this in our head, need to see something like this to remember we’re not going this road alone. Along the way there are others with the same drive to make stories for every single thing we see. Beautiful. Blessed be!

I feel the exact same things. It would be erie except that we both apparently know ‘the zone’ and have been there many times and each one of us is a writer by choice or design but for wathever reason we have to do what we do.
Peace,
E

For Dreaming Egypt –
You’re very kind to say so. I would be honored if you repost this. But would you please attribute me as the author and link back to this blog? I’ve had a number of people copy and paste my blogs without any attribution. That, my friends, is a true example of plagiarism. Thankfully, my wife works at a legal firm to support her biology habit. So we have some defense against such nonsense.

A thought that is more than a prayer but a song to those who seek the same comfort from the loneliness that comes from a creative mind.

Ive read your blog for a little while now; that prayer is, singly, the best thing ive ever read that youve written. Never before has such an axiom of my sentiment toward writing been put into words. I applaud the way youve been able to give life to the insecurity lent to us whove found expression in language. Thank you for letting me read that.

I agree with Kimberly:a thought, a pray, a song.
Just a side note to you Robert, My b-day is coming up and when asked what I want I told them what ever books of yours they can find. Smiles
Stay Blessed For You Truly Are

Very nice poem Robert, I loved it so much, I printed it off and showed my friends. Then a teacher took it from me to read to the entire class. A priceless look appeared on his face moments afterwards. He wasn’t happy that you can write better then him.

I loved it! I hope you don’t mind, I put it on my Facebook. Never fear, I said it was yours and was sure to put a link to this site! If its not okay just let me know.

This is the first thing I have read of yours. It is fitting I do so today as my own muse wonders far from me, and I long for her return. So reading your song of prayers… that touches me and reminds me of my own hopes, dreams and prayers and how I too I am alone in this world as a dreamer! They can come to life
July 10th, 2007 at 6:02 pm
I meant to say I am not alone in this world as a dreamer!

It makes my heart trill–a longing and true depth of feeling…Thanks for the insight and wonder…for a beautifully poetic voice.
