Two of the principal characters of Luthiel's Song follow. More will be added here as time permits!
Luthiel Valshae
Born on First Summer’s Eve, in the season of Li, on Eledweil the 15th, in the year 3372 AD, Luthiel is the main character in this epic series. She lives in Flir Light Hollow, with the elves called Valemar. Her named father is Glendoras and her Mother is Winowe. She has a sister – Leowin and a brother – Lorethain. But they are not her real family as Luthiel is an orphan. She was found abandoned fifteen years ago, still barely a newborn, near Flir Light Hollow in the springtime of the year. Nothing is known of her true mother or father. For Luthiel, this mystery accompanies a great sense of sadness and loss. For she never felt that she belonged and she is often treated as strange by the other elves.
While living in Flir Light Hollow, Luthiel kept to herself. Since a very young age, she was afraid of the other elves for they teased her and gave her odd looks. But as she grew she became both strong and beautiful. And with each passing year the teasing came more from jealousy and less from contempt for strangeness. Even so, Luthiel was able to form close bonds of friendship. Her sister, Leowin was her closest. Others, including Minelwe and Galwin, accepted her despite her difference.
But she was ever at odds with the more popular children who branded her with the name ‘strangeling’ at a very young age. Still, Luthiel has learned a quiet sort of confidence and has grown to love Flir Light Hollow – the only home she will ever know – or so she thinks.
Luthiel is tall, strong, and beautiful. She is 5’ 10” to be precise – the tallest elfin girl her age. But despite this height, she is graceful and well proportioned. Her slender build belies a strength that is the match of any girl, and many of the boys, her age. But she handles herself in a way that indicates she is not fully aware of her physical gifts. There are momentary bursts of confidence, but these are fleeting. She looks different than most elves. There is an ethereal air about her, a lightness that seems to slide away beneath the eyes. She looks different – her hair is silver, her skin as pale as a cloud. But more than anything, it is this ethereal quality that makes her seem strange to the other elves.
Despite the teasing of her peers there is nothing Luthiel could dream of that would make her want to leave Flir Light Hollow. She protects her place in this quiet little corner of the elf lands with a ferocity born of one who knows it could be taken away very easily. The elves treatment of her has forced her to recall again and again, that she was abandoned. Deep down, she doubts the permanence of anything in the world and fears the loss of her home all the more for it.
Vanye Eloneth
Vanye was born in the season of Nar, on Silva the 9th , in the year 3115 AD. He is an Ithildar of the noble house Eloneth in the realm of Ithilden. He is the grandson of the High Lord Tuorlin but since his taking up the mantle of Blade Dancer in 3255 AD he has made every effort to downplay his relationship with the High Lord. House Eloneth has risen to ascendancy over the past thousand years through discipline and fair rule. Vanye, has carried on in the tradition of his family – striking out on his own while forswearing the riches and renown others of his station may have exploited.
Vanye is strong minded, shrewd and independent. He is also one of the greatest among the Blade Dancers – an order of Mystical Swordsmen founded by Vlad Valkire during the Tyranny of Dreams. Single handedly, in the year 3222, he hunted and defeated the generals of nine troll’s army. The army, left broken without their leadership, faltered in its invasion of Minonowe and eventually returned to Rimwold where it had risen in anger.
Vanye, though a proud and effective Blade Dancer, is ill at ease with his role as a messenger for the Vyrl. Despite the cautious words of his grandfather and Mithorden, he has tended to agree with Zalos and thinks that it is better to confront the Vyrl rather than send children to die each year.
